The Future of Online Gaming in India

The Indian online gaming market is at base level currently. Over the next 2-3 years some of the key developments would be:

Polarization of gamers: A momentous segment of online gamers would continue to be as informal gamers. These so called casual gamers, mainly adult males and females, will drive Online Gaming and take it to the next level. What would popularize online gaming more is that, the characters in the game would be named or characterized according to famous Bollywood or soap actors.  And talking about the professional players, they would build their own set of classified group and would move towards multi-player games. This section of classified gamers would use prepaid cards for payments.

Rise of the home gamers: Gaming from home will be big hit in regards to the rising broad band penetration and falling PC prices. Shadowed segment like housewives and older citizens will also be initiated. However, access by children would be regulated / monitored closely by parents; only a few set of games would be allowed. Due to this, youngsters would also be attracted to gaming chains for enhanced gaming experience, resulting in the prominence of organized gaming zones and merging of various small café chains to get into gaming to earn better revenues.

Growth in both PC & mobile gamers: The rise in number of subscribers and the replacement market for mobile handsets would help the mobile gaming industry to grow. The attraction of playing multi-player games and higher quality games would also attract a significant user base towards online PC-based gaming. There would be a growth in the unattended markets of consoles.

What are Embedded Systems

Have you ever wondered what is inside your refrigerator?

No, not the food! We are talking about the intelligence that allows the refrigerator to do everything it does to keep your food fresh.

Think Embedded Chips, not Potato Chips!

For example in your refrigerator one or more chips control the temperature by turning on and off the compressor. Another chip might sense and control the making of ice.

Your fridge is a simple example.  Even more complex embedded systems are at work in your watch, mobile phone, DVD player, washing machine, the microwave oven, the digital camera, the car engine control unit – the list is endless. What makes all these systems intelligent is the embedded system which is at the core of these devices

Today the world is entering an era of pervasive computing. During the course of our daily routine, we interact with many systems which have some kind of intelligence built in. We take this for granted – so much so that we don’t even notice it happening.

Over the years, the use of embedded systems is expanding in leaps and bounds. The devices and gadgets that we use in our everyday lives are but an extremely small part of the total span of applications where embedded systems are used. Today, there is practically no engineering field remaining in which embedded system are not used. From devices as simple as toys to those as critical as a pacemaker that keeps a person alive, you will find embedded systems working silently in the background.  There are systems controlling crucial functions of vehicles ranging from two-wheelers and cars to massive airliners and even satellites.

Next time you get in a car, try to think of the dozen or more interlinked embedded systems on board. These systems control various functions like engine control, gearbox, car navigation, access control and power steering.  When you perform a mundane action such as turning on the air conditioning or opening the power windows, a small chip somewhere is making sure your commands are followed.  In modern cars, more complex tasks are often controlled by these tiny computers too – when the driver presses the brake, an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) kicks in, monitoring the wheels so that they don’t lock and adjusting the brake pressure if they do, displaying information on the dashboard and even turning on the rear lights.

Is this the right career path for me?

From an individual’s point of view, if you have an affinity and passion towards building Futuristic Products, Gadgets in the areas of home automation, Industries like Telecom, Networking, Aeronautics, Manufacturing and activities that will drive day to day life, Embedded Systems is the career path. In short you must have the passion to build next generation products.

Another IT revolution!

According to the National Research Council, Information technology (IT) is on the verge of another revolution.

The use of Embedded [Networked] Systems throughout society could well dwarf previous milestones in the information revolution. These systems of embedded computers have the potential to change radically the way people interact with their environment by linking together a range of devices and sensors that will allow information to be collected, shared, and processed in unprecedented ways.

So, just what is an embedded system?

In short – one can understand it as a combination of hardware and software which together form a component of a larger machine.

An embedded system is designed to run on its own without human intervention, and may be required to respond to events in real time. Embedded systems are used in industrial machines, automobiles, medical equipment, cameras, household appliances, airplanes, vending machines, cellular phone, PDA’s, toys and many other devices.

And they are everywhere !

IT, Ireland and me…

A firsthand account, by Amplify student; Rohan Shaw, about his study abroad experiences via Amplify Mindware’s student exchange program in Ireland.

So far my days in Ireland has been very good. When I was heading to Athlone Institute of Technology(AIT), I thought it would be difficult to adjust with the people and might feel like the odd one in a new place. But things turned out to be very different from what I had anticipated. There are lots of International Students here coming from forty different nations.The people here are very friendly in nature and fun to interact with. Seeing so many Foreign students does not make feel left out.

I received a very warm welcome from the University’s International Office ,who helped me in getting acquainted  with the place. I was very thrilled when they made things easy for me by giving me a tour of the University Campus and a short tour of the town. They helped me in finding a suitable accommodation for myself and opening a bank account. It was very easy to adjust in a new place with the help of the International office.

The Professors here are very friendly and always eager to help. They are very patient and understanding and are always in the lookout to help weak students cope up with the rest of the class. The standard of teaching here is very high and since most of the professors teaching us have worked in the IT industry they give us real world examples in making us understand a topic. Overall the course is easy for us  as we have done quite a lot of programming and similar subjects at AmplifyMindware.


The campus is very huge and the sports facilities are excellent. All the major sports are played here and I actively participate in a few of them. The cafeteria is very big and serves a variety of items to choose from. There many things to get involved in here. There are plenty of events being organized every now and then. There is also an Indian Community here which organized the Diwali Celebrations, where I got an opportunity to interact with the Indian population living here. It was very different experience celebrating Diwali in Ireland and having Indian food for a change.

I would like to conclude by thanking AmplifyMindware for giving me the opportunity to pursue my further studies at AIT,Ireland and experience the lifestyle and diversity of culture. It is a very beautiful place to study in with a very warm  and friendly atmosphere and it feels great to be here.
